Recap: One-Day DIY Project Ideas
Yes, it is possible to transform your home with a one-day DIY project. Any of these 24 hour projects will make your home feel like it's gotten a functional and good looking upgrade.
Floating Shelf
Create a perfect spot for book organization or decor. This project only requires:
1 x 6 wood board cut to size (you can get it cut down inside The Home Depot)
4 Shelf Brackets
Drill
1.5" Screws
If you like, you can stain or paint your shelves. I even recommend spray painting your brackets to match your style.
Supply List
Path Lighting
Path lighting gives the exterior of your home an elevated look but it also adds a measure of safety.
These are my favorite outdoor lights that reflect a cute star shaped light on to the ground.
Privacy Film
Adding film to your windows offers you added privacy without compromising natural light. There are different types films - peel and stick and cling are the most popular ones I've seen.
I personally used the static cling version, which is activated with water and it has held up great almost two years in.
Supply List
Vanity Paint
Whether you have a new vanity or an old dingy one - this project is for you. Make sure to follow these steps:
Clean your vanity
Scuff your vanity with a sanding block
Wipe off any debris
Apply a coat of primer and let it fully dry
Apply a coat of paint (I recommend a gloss sheen)
Attach hardware
Bistro String Lights
These hanging string lights completely changed our deck. It feel like a fancy restaurant or lounge! These lights come with the Hubspace app that helps you schedule when they turn on/off and what color they reflect.
String lights are a perfect way to decorate your space for the holidays, with basically no effort.
Supply List
Exterior Door Paint
Painting a door does not need to intimidating! Do not make the same mistake I made many years ago - use primer and paint rated for outdoor use. If you do not, your paint will chip and peel once temperatures change (extreme heat or extreme cold) and you will have many regrets!
Outdoor Fire Pit
A fire pit, in 24 hours? Heck YES! The secret to this is concrete pavers! We used basic 12x12" concrete pavers from The Home Depot garden center.
If you have more time, you can dig these into the ground but it is not absolutely necessary. Simply having a level ground was sufficient and safe for our outdoor fire pit.
Supply List
Broom Organizers
This seems like the least fancy project but it is functional and it improves your day EVERY SINGLE DAY! You don't need anything fancy - this broom organizer is fairly inexpensive and you can customize it by adding individual broom grips to hang more items.
Supply List
Ceiling Curtain Rod
Basic shower rods got to go! A ceiling mounted shower rod instantly makes your bathroom feel like a hotel.
I have outlined the entire install process here.
