Holiday Decorating at the White House

I was honored to be invited back to the White House as a holiday decorator. Alongside 300 volunteers, I helped transform multiple rooms into a winter wonderland! We used 98 trees, approximately 14,975 feet of ribbon, over 350 candles, over 33,892 ornaments, and over 22,100 bells to decorate the White House.

Every year, the White House opens applications to people across the United States. Hundreds of volunteers from various states and territories travel to Washington D.C. to sort, organize, and DIY holiday decor.

Magic, Wonder, and Joy

This year, the theme was "Magic, Wonder, and Joy". Every room was designed to reflect the magic by which children experience this season. I took it as a challenge to be present, to play, and to make joy when possible.

Bringing the Magic to Life

Even in my second year, I am in awe about how much of what you see is hand made just days before the big reveal. Check out last year's White House crafts!

I was lucky to go through this experience with my insanely talented friend Marite from Marite Does It. She's an expert crafter that will be breaking down easy holiday DIYs you can make at home so be sure to check her out!

HGTV Holiday Special

You can go behind the scenes to see how we brought these incredible designs to life! In December, HGTV will air a holiday special where you can take a tour of every room alongside The Property Brothers. Make sure to keep and eye out for me!

Holiday Nostalgia

Every room is truly special, it feels impossible to pick a favorite.

The China Room was any little kid's dream! I could picture a little hand reaching up to sneak a pastry (in my case, pan dulce) while the adults laughed around the kitchen table.

The Library was reminiscent of being tucked into bed before Christmas, with one eye open, hoping to hear the jingle of reindeer arriving with Santa.

The Vermeil Room represents the joy of music and performance. It highlights musicians and whimsical ballerinas! Attending winter orchestra and theater performances was a tradition in my family and The Vermeil Room was a reminder to gather with the people I love.
